Parents, Will You Vote? Anyone? Anyone?

On Tuesday, May 15, parents need to get out and vote. Will you take 2 minutes to watch this video to find out why? Anyone? Anyone?

In the past, parents in Brookfield have not voted in large numbers. In fact, when we look at the various demographic groups in our own, than any other group.

On Tuesday, May 15, Brookfield residents will have a chance to vote on the proposed budget for the upcoming fiscal year.

I am a Mom to two young children. And I will vote. Will you?

We have so much at stake, but we vote the least.

What happens when we don’t vote? Our priorities are not represented. The things that matter to us, to our families and to our future are sacrificed. It’s been going on so long that it’s almost expected.

But when I talk to other parents, that’s not what I hear any of us want. We want to know what’s happening. We want to speak for our kids.

Now is our chance. And it takes about 10 minutes.

On Tuesday, May 15, join me in voting for Brookfield. If you are not registered to vote, you can get a form here and bring it to the Registrar. If you’re not sure which polling location is for you, check your polling location here.

Like you, I’m a busy parent. But my family needs me to vote just as much as they need me to do the many other things I do each day.

I will vote. Who’s with me? Anyone?

I am an early morning person. I stop off at the High School on the way to work. Laura is absolutely correct that it only takes 10 minutes (and that is if there are many questions on the ballot). It's simply, quick, and the right thing to do for you, your family, and your town.

Brilliant!

I LOVE this, Laura! Thank you!

Thank you for not politicizing this site!
Everyone should be voting, look at the turn out in other countries where people face the threat of being blown up by a suicide bomber, yet they come out to vote.

Not voting is taken to mean that the choices given are not ones a person wants to select. Poll after poll has shown that to be the primary cause of voter apathy.

Thanks Laura, I'll be voting!
Tom Murphy May 7, 2012 at 01:44 pm
Steve, Not liking the choices is excuse not a reason. If someone does not like the choices they should be more involved in the process from the beginning
Laura Orban May 7, 2012 at 02:22 pm
Maybe non-voters didn't like the choices in the voter apathy poll so they didn't participate in that either. I'm going to go with what parents have told me, which is that they are busy and need to have clear information about how local issues affect them and what actions they need to take.

Thank you Laura once again! I will VOTE and remind as many people as I can to do the same!

Great piece, Laura!
I want EVERYONE to vote... absolutely! I can accept any decision that a true majority makes if all registered voters vote. Unfortunately, half of that number would be considered "good turnout". VOTE!!!
Rob Gianazza May 7, 2012 at 04:33 pm
Half that number is a great turnout. Unfortunately, a third of the registered voters is considered a good turnout. Please let me join you in encouraging everyone to get out and vote.

I am a parent and always have voted in the past! So I will definitely be voting on the 15th! Education is too important not too to take the time to vote.

Laura - I am proud to call you my friend! The right to use our voices and our votes should never be taken for granted.

Great piece and video, Laura. Hopefully this will encourage people to see just how important every vote is.

Thank you for the video compliments. It was fun to make and hopefully, it will get parents to the polls next Tuesday!

All of us reading this and going to the town meetings are already voters.... so we all need to find our friends and neighbors who don't routinely vote, and get them to do so. It WILL make a difference!

Absentee ballots are available at the Town Clerk's office. So if you are not going to be in Town on Tuesday you should stop by and pick up a ballot and VOTE!!!
Marge Davidson May 9, 2012 at 03:30 pm
Great video! Your vote is important. You get to determine the direction of our town and our schools. Please do not assume that the budget will pass. If there are two registered voters in your household, both should vote.
