Weekly BHS Sports Recap: Season Finales

Strong Spring Season Comes To An End For Brookfield Sports.

Softball (22-3, 14-2): The Lady Bobcats enjoyed an incredible season, suffering only one loss during the regular season.  The 19-1 mark earned them a number two seed in the Class L State Championship.  Winning their first round and quarterfinal games at home set them up for the semi-final game played at the Frank Biondi Softball Field in West Haven against the number six seed Bristol Eastern (19-4) on Monday.

Their goal of making it to a championship game came up just short, as Brookfield lost a hard fought game 3-2.  The team showed a championship spirit by fighting back in a game where they fell behind 2-0 and 3-1.  They had the tying run on second base with two outs in the seventh inning but were unable to come up with the game-tying hit.

The loss ended stellar playing careers for five Brookfield seniors.  Pitching sensation Kayla Berardi and first baseman Stephanie Moss both were named all-state performers.  Berardi was also named Senior Scholar Athlete of the Year at a ceremony held Tuesday night at Brookfield High School by the Boosters of the BHS Athletic Program.  Berardi pitched all but three innings in the softball team's season.  Moss received the Athletic Coordinator Spirit Award.
