The (BHS) girls lacrosse team claimed an impressive 14-9 victory at Avon Thursday in the first round of the CIAC Class M State Tournament.
Goaltender Kelly Grady and a staunch team defense led by Carolyn Marron, Steph Hunt, Katie Maloney, and Sam Lawlor shut down the Avon attack as the Lady Bobcats jumped out to a 6-0 lead and never looked back.
Jenna Bellano led the balanced BHS offensive effort with 4 goals, while Brooke Sands and Ashley Bedini added 3 apiece, Ellie Calcavecchio 2, and Tori Weinstock and Liah Baity one each. Emily Stoeppel dished out 2 assists, and Hannah Bibbo, Bellano, and Sands one each.

Grady finished with 10 saves for 10th seeded Brookfield, who improved their record to 12-6-1 and will travel to second ranked East Lyme Monday.
