Boys, Girls Soccer Bounced From CIAC Tourney

Bobcats fall in second round of 2012 state tournament.

The Brookfield High School (BHS) boys and girls soccer teams each won their first round matches at home only to be eliminated in heartbreaking fashion on the road in the second round this past weekend in CIAC state tourney action.

The Lady Bobcats opened Friday afternoon with a scoreless battle with Woodstock Academy that went to penalty kicks, where BHS prevailed 3-0 with seniors Taylor Bucklin, Julia DePoi and Paulina Haron scoring.

The Lady Bobcats were then on the losing end of a shoot-out, 5-3, Monday at top-ranked East Lyme after a 1-1 game where senior Briana Griselle's second half goal had tied it up for Brookfield. The Lady Bobcats finished the season with an overall record of 7-7-4.

On the boys’ side, the Bobcats powered past Plainfield 5-0 on Saturday with two goals apiece from freshman Altin Celaj and sophomore Mike Goulart, and one from senior Billy Hunt.

However, on Sunday at Abbott Tech in Danbury, the Brookfield boys had trouble finding the net, losing 2-1 to the speedy Wolverines. Celaj's first half goal had evened the score at 1-1 but a breakaway in the final seconds gave Abbott Tech the half-time lead and proved to be the final margin as they fended off the Bobcats time and time again throughout the second half.
