Box Scores: Strong Start For Brookfield Sports Teams

Girls Volleyball rallies for the win; Boys Cross Country dominates meet while Girls earn split; Girls Soccer scores tough victory; but the Field Hockey team drops its opener.

The Lady Bobcats rallied for a thrilling 3-2 victory to open their season against Housatonic at Brookfield High School (BHS) yesterday. They lost the first two games in tough fashion, falling 25-22 and 26-24, but stormed back winning games three and four 25-20 and 25 -14 to set up the dramatic fifth game 15-13 win.

The team was led by Jamie Bickelhaupt, who had 14 kills, 10 digs, five aces and two blocks. Kathryn Marron added 13 kills, six digs and two blocks while Meghan Heron recorded 18 assists.

Boys Cross Country (3-0):

The boys team dominated its first meet of the year at home by placing 10 runners in the top 11 of the field. Spencer Mannion led all runners with a time of 16:59 and Dan McArdle was second with a time of 18:04.

Finishing fourth through 11th were Ben Lofink (18:04), Collin Lennon (18:40), Jack McKeaver (19:06), Adam Fox (19:07), Chris Peterson (19:20), Jacob Mayerson (19:24) and Tyler Mannion (19:31).

Girls Cross Country (1-1):

The girls team placed four runners in the top 10, but fell to Immaculate in their first meet of the year at home. The Lady Bobcats were led by sophomore Hannah Lyon, who placed fourth with a time of 22:31.

"I was pretty impressed overall and very impressed with my sophomore leading the pack," girls cross country coach Beth Delaney said.

Following Lyon were captain Sam Carlucci with a time of 22:38 (fifth), captain Aileen Tobin with 22:42 (sixth) and Lily Maliszewski with 26:38 (ninth).

The Lady Bobcats scored the only goal of the match in the first half and held on to win their season opener at SWC rival Weston yesterday 1-0.
