Bobcats Remain Unbeaten with 1-0 Win Over Newtown
Boys soccer breaks scoring drought and bests rival Newtown.
Sophomore Mike Goulart's goal on a direct kick in the 10th minute was all the offense the Brookfield High School boys soccer team needed to defeat a strong Newtown side before a large and enthusiastic crowd Wednesday night at BHS Stadium.
Goulart's low strike past the Nighthawks' defensive wall followed one of the many fouls called during the very physical match and ended a Bobcat scoring drought that had lasted for three games. Fortunately, those games — vs. Pomperaug, Norwich Free Academy and Bethel — all ended in 0-0 ties thanks to a stifling team defense and the goalkeeping of senior Austin DaCunha, who now has posted eight shutouts for the 6-0-5 Bobcats.
Brookfield will next travel to Monroe to take on Masuk Saturday morning at 11.
