Three Newer Teachers Honored by Peers

Educators honored by their coworkers as Building Teachers of the Year.

Along with Whisconier Middle School teacher Lisa Schang earning the honor of Teacher of the Year, the other three school buildings also nominated educators deserving of recognition in 2013.

Center Elementary School teachers and other professional staff selected Nancy Sommerfeld as its Teacher of the Year.

Sommerfeld first came to CES in the 2009-2010 school year as a paraprofessional. When the new all-day kindergarten program was approved by the Board of Education for the 2012-2013 academic year, a new kindergarten position became available. Sommerfeld was perfect for the role because of her demonstrated abilities as a paraprofessional.

Her academic resume is impressive with degrees from the College of William and Mary and Fordham University. Being selected for this honor by her peers in her first year of teaching at CES is testament to the high regard in which she is held.

Huckleberry Hill School chose Dana Marone as the schools Teacher of the Year.

Marone is also a relatively new hire for Brookfield assuming a full-time teaching position at HHES for the 2011-2012 school year. She has both a B.A. and M.A. from Quinnipiac University where she earned numerous honors including graduating summa cum laude and dean's list status for her entire tenure at the school.

Marone describes her philosophy of education through the acronym T.E.A.C.H. Her goal as an educator is to provide Every student with the opportunity to Achieve his or her best in a Caring and Heartfelt environment.

Earning the status of HHES Teacher of the Year indicates that she too is held in the highest regard by her peers.

Brookfield High School honored Sharon Davidson as its Teacher of the Year.

Davidson became a math teacher at BHS in the fall of 2010 but she was no stranger to the district or the school having worked at BHS as and interim math teacher since 2008, having five children educated in Brookfield and working as a math tutor with local students for many years.

Educated at the State University of New York and Iona College, Davidson was honored as a cum laude graduate.

Davidson believes that her strengths as a math teacher are the ability to connect with students, the skill of breaking down sophisticated problem solving into concrete steps for any student to comprehend and the belief that every student is capable of success in math with the right combination of clear explanation, patience and self confidence.

Davidson is another relatively new BHS teacher honored by her peers.
