Brookfield Holds Vigil, Launches Lanterns for Newtown

Brookfield comes together to support its neighbors through the aftermath of last week's tragic shooting.

The Brookfield High School peer counselors arranged for a candlelight vigil Thursday night that featured songs from the Brookfield High School Chorus and words from town clergy.  Peer counselors placed 26 luminaries around the "B" at midfield as each of the victim's names were read.

At The Brookfield Theatre for the Arts, the community came together to write messages on 26 lanterns for each of the victims of the Sandy Hook tragedy.  The lanterns were lit and lifted off into the sky.

“We had a great turnout and I think we accomplished what we hoped for, to celebrate the lives of those lost,” co-organizer Brian Casella wrote on the lantern launch Facebook page after the event. Casella noted that the event raised $750 to be donated to the United Way Sandy Hook School Fund.
