Highest Value Vehicles in Brookfield

A look at the top cars and trucks on Brookfield's vehicle grand list.

With Gov. Dannel Malloy's proposal to eliminate the vehicle property tax on the first $20,000 of assessed value being considered by the General Assembly, here's a look at the top assessed cars and trucks in Brookfield.

Below are the top 20 assessed cars, trucks and trailers in town, according to records kept by the Town Assessor's Office. To see a fuller list of the highest appraised vehicles in Brookfield, see the PDF attached.

Read here for more on how Malloy's proposal would affect Brookfield.

If the first $20,000 of assessed value becomes exempt, almost 15,000 vehicles would come off of Brookfield's tax rolls, leaving 1,135 vehicles on the grand list.

Those 1,135, at the current mill rate of 24.54, carry a total assessed value of $29.85 million and garner $732,456 in tax revenue. The 20 vehicles listed below account for $1.43 million in assessed value and $35,160 in tax revenue.

Several of these vehicles are commercial trucks and construction type vehicles. If you were looking for shock value about the number of fancy cars in Brookfield this clearly shows the opposite. As a matter of fact it highlights the fact that if the car tax is eliminated for vehicles under $20k the burden would fall mostly on business type vehicles.
Rick February 28, 2013 at 03:30 PM
WOW! A car thief can now Google these people to get their addresses, and you just gave them a beautiful shopping list similar to the movie "Gone in 60 Seconds". I even see a KW Kenworth truck that can tow the Flatbed that I can put the car of my choice on. If I were one of these people I'd be SO LIVID right now...
petperson February 28, 2013 at 04:12 PM
I knew I wouldn't be on this list! Not sure people on it will like this?
IN HOC QUID MIHI February 28, 2013 at 04:56 PM
You have printed a list of cars owned by tax-payer citizens of Brookfield. These owners have not hidden the fact that they own these vehicles! I assume that they are current in their tax payments. How about printing a list of citizens who are NOT paying their auto taxes? How about a list of citizens NOT paying their real estate taxes? How about asking people to report their neighbors who have several cars in their driveways w/ Florida or Vermont registrations who don't pay auto tax to Brookfield?

At least some investigative reporting! I don't care if this was published. This is true reporting, something the NewsTimes knows nothing about. Maybe now you can take a look at the BOE resumes and see who has a false resume engorging their education prowess.

Pray tell how this is an invasion of privacy???!!! This is public information
long time resident February 28, 2013 at 05:49 PM
I would like to know what possible nut around town has an automatic weapon as the lunatic in Newtown processed.

don't stop there, New York and New Jersey as well
Spanky Dorise February 28, 2013 at 07:48 PM
long time, he didnt own them, he stole them, so he wouldnt come up on the registry
DM February 28, 2013 at 07:58 PM
Is it a dumb story? 100% yes. It doesn't even give figures of the actual taxed amount to gain perspective of the car tax amounts paid... BUT... this is public information and can be used however people like, just like posting real estate transactions. It is just a shame that the article has no substance or validity, but perhaps people will better educate themselves now on what information is publicly available about them that can be used publicly without authorization.
DM February 28, 2013 at 08:02 PM
I see the tax amounts paid in the article. My apologies.

Public information. Go to Town Hall...it's amazing what you can find out about.
long time resident February 28, 2013 at 09:13 PM
STOLE THEM? This is new news that has not been reported by any news outlets. I read where he and his mother went shooting with them.
Brookfield Resident March 01, 2013 at 01:38 AM
This would have been just as effective (or useless, depending on your perspective) without the names... yes it's publicly available information, but having it in a "google-able" form like this serves no legitimate purposes. Shame on the Patch for this.
Brookfield Resident March 01, 2013 at 01:39 AM
Yes, that's the way to build a great community... turn neighbor against neighbor so the government can have more money to spend.
Steven DeVaux March 01, 2013 at 03:38 AM
What happened to all the porsches Dr. Gish owns and has parked in the garage on Rt. 25 in, formerly, the Brookfield Center Post Office?
Steven DeVaux March 01, 2013 at 03:39 AM
Well, now the car thieves have a list of targets! They should say "Thanks Patch!"
New Englander March 01, 2013 at 05:04 AM
Pretty shocking and irresponsible to publish this list. I'd be annoyed if I was one of these people.
Bill Generous March 01, 2013 at 02:52 PM
I visit town halls throughout CT to get summary grand list information. While the grand list is public information, a few towns keep the motor vehicle grand list for certain years away from the public eye. They cite a law that requires protection for certain individuals that the printed grand list did not protect, so they don't show it. When a town goes through a revaluation, people often look at detailed real estate information (including the grand list), to make a case for an appeal.
Steven DeVaux March 02, 2013 at 12:32 AM
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA - You should compare BOATS!
JAMIE HOWARD March 02, 2013 at 01:56 AM
you have the right to publish this -.but it shows how much class you have -NONE- if you must publish informational journalizm publish the the ones who are not paying there taxes such as some of our up standing members in the communiity -patch redeem your self be a WATCH DOG especially on the goverment in this town or be the ras you are turning into
Pat Conlon March 02, 2013 at 03:30 AM
This is outrageous. It is nobody's business the value of someone's car. I like reading the patch, but I really have to wonder what you guys are thinking when I see this. Unbelievable.
Pat Conlon March 02, 2013 at 03:34 AM
Hey patch, why don't you publish a list of all the deadbeats who are behind on their taxes too? Isn't that public information? Or what about all the section 8 recipients in town? Jeez. This is public information but people have a right to not be put on the front page of the newspaper for no good reason.
Josh March 02, 2013 at 04:21 AM
Tax delinquency is public knowledge. There is a state list related to delinquency for a variety of taxes. I believe Towns put legal notices in papers about tax delinquency. Section 8 is PRIVATE information. That is strictly between the building owner, the tennant and the government. There is no public right to this type of knowledge.
Steven DeVaux March 02, 2013 at 11:48 AM
Josh, It is. Even the fact that Brookfield's state legistlator has had a Federal Lien on him filed with the town for taxes for years. Oh yes, it's true.
Steven DeVaux March 02, 2013 at 11:50 AM
Pat, it is and you would be shocked to see who are the deadbeats in Brookfield. As a Brookfield property owner I am.
Spanky Dorise March 02, 2013 at 03:43 PM
right! his mother owned them, not him, they wouldve been under his mothers name. you read correctly when they would go shooting together, but when he was denied the ability to buy a gun from dicks, because he did not qualifythe background check, he stole them from his mother. so in the end he was not on any list you desire
Patrick Conlon March 02, 2013 at 06:31 PM
Whatever guys! Whether section 8 or tax delinquency is public knowledge isn't the point. Just because the government requires you to file your ownership of a vehicle or anything else doesn't mean it's ok for someone else to publish your name to attract attention to their website. It's just not right. Now this info is out there and easily accessible to any loonie who wants to harass or otherwise harm these people. With the negative rhetoric directed toward successful people these days a list like this on the local news website is a bad idea. I challenge someone to articulate a good reason to publicize this list in this way. Academic, ivory tower ideology need not apply. This is real life for everyone on this list. I'd be furious if I was one of them.
Steven DeVaux March 02, 2013 at 07:00 PM
For a list of the town's property tax deadbeats, go to: https://www.mytaxbill.org/inet/revenue/search.do search by street. No address or designation (road, street, court, etc) required.
Dawn S March 05, 2013 at 11:30 PM
How does this have any value as news? Its an invasion of privacy and irresponsible. As for public information - if someone wants to know this - let them go to town hall and get it themselves. Is the Brookfield Patch going to post POs outside everyone's home listed? How creepy! Shame on you.
