BLUMENTHAL: The Connecticut Congressional delegation, which includes the senator, Lieberman, Himes, DeLauro and Murphy, wrote a letter to FTC Chairman Jonathan Leibowitz urging an investigation into complaints of potentially deceptive and misleading practices being used the Veterans Support Organization’ (VSO), which solicits donations and claims to help veterans in Connecticut.
“The VFW is also deeply troubled, as are we, by IRS 990 filings showing that that this organization has seemingly used only a small portion or percentage of millions of dollars in donations for charitable purposes such as grants and assistance programs to help veterans," the delegation wrote in the letter.
LIEBERMAN: As chairman of the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, the senator and ranking member Susan Collins released a copy of a letter they sent to Secret Service Director Mark Sullivan as part of the committee's investigation into the rules governing Secret Service employee conduct at home and abroad.
"Like most of the American public, we have followed with deep distress and disappointment the unfolding story of the actions of a number of Secret Service and military personnel in Cartagena, Colombia, on the night of April 11 and the morning of April 12, 2012," they wrote. "The behavior of these individuals — not just their procuring of prostitutes, but also their alleged disruptive display of public drunkenness, among other things — brought disgrace to themselves and to the United States government.
HIMES: The congressman hosted a forum in Norwalk on Tuesday to inform small business owners of the government programs available to them. Himes told the Hour that when speaking to attendees prior to the event, he felt a sense of optimism about the economy although "it's not cause for celebration."
DELAURO: The congresswoman announced Jeremy Wolin of Woodbridge as the winner of the 31th annual Congressional Art Competition, "An Artistic Discovery," for the 3rd district on Tuesday.
“Each spring, as I view the Congressional Art Competition exhibit, I am impressed by the artistic gifts and creativity of our young people — and this year is no exception," DeLauro said. "Jeremy’s exceptional photograph “Introspection” is a shining example of the 3rd Congressional district’s talents, and the depth and dimension displayed in his work is extraordinary."
MURPHY: State Rep. William Tong announced on Tuesday that he is quitting his bid for U.S. and will endorse Murphy, according to the CT Mirror. Gov. Malloy and Lt. Gov. Nancy Wyman also publicly announced their support for the congressman.
