Brookfield police responded to Costco just before noon on Aug. 3 for a report of shoplifting in progress.
Following an investigation, it was revealed that James Gustavson, 25, of Secor Road, Brookfield, allegedly attempted to shoplift a portable GPS unit and fought with loss prevention employees in an effort to escape.
Police arrested Gustavson on charges of larceny in the sixth degree and robbery in the second.
He was released after posting $1,500 bond with a court appearance scheduled for Aug. 16.
