MAP: 3 Brookfield Clerks Fined in Tobacco Sting

Three stores found in violation for selling tobacco to minors.

Brookfield police and the state Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services (DMHAS) Tobacco Prevention and Enforcement Program (TPEP) conducted unannounced compliance inspections of local stores that sell tobacco on Nov. 1.

Under the direction and supervision of DMHAS investigators, an underage youth employed by TPEP entered the establishments and attempted to purchase tobacco products.

Of the 17 stores inspected (see map above), three were found in violation for selling tobacco to minors under 18: Black Gold Irving, Four Corners Gulf and Brookfield Mobil, all along the Federal Road corridor.

The offending clerks were fined $200.

The Cigarette Dealer License holder for each establishment will also face additional sanctions the state Department of Revenue Services, which issues dealer licenses.
