Power of the People

to the Editor:

When Brookfield voters go to the polls this November 5th, they should remember that Brookfield's government as we know it today was almost put in jeopardy nearly a year ago.  The democratic administration of Lasser-Davidson openly attempted to take away our right to elect the person who runs town government.
Lasser- Davidson's Charter Revision commission proposed that Brookfield be run by a hired manager- accountable only to the Board of Selectmen, not the voters of Brookfield.  Mr Lasser is running for a First Selectman position that he essentially tried to eliminate in 2012.  Mr Lasser did not want the person running Brookfield  to be hired and fired by we, the people.
Had Lasser and Davidson got their way, Town Hall would be run by someone witha fancy bureaucratic title who wouldn't even have to live in Brookfield!  Our property taxes would be spent on someone who might not even pay taxes themselves.
Thankfully, Brookfield voters rejected this and other disastrous proposals by landslide margins.  Brookfield's Republican Town Committee led a marvelous effort to defend our rights and protect our community.  Remember in November that Bill Tinsley, Marty Flynn and the entire Republican team were on the side of the people in defeating last year's Charter Revisions.
Remember in November that every candidate on the Democrat ticket openly supported the Charter Revisions that would have increased the size and cost of government and removed power from the people.  How that could be anyone's idea  of improving Brookfield is beyond me!
Vote Row A for Bill Tinsley, Marty Flynn, and a team willing to stand up for the people of Brookfield!
