'I'm Not Convinced the BBB is That Useful'

A look at some of the comments from Patch account holders in the region.

From Brookfield Readers:

"Other than cataloging complaints, I'm not convinced the BBB is that useful. I can tell you from personal experience companies don't seem to care if they are poorly rated and anybody with a spotty record can pay their way in. See above double speak." —

"If you read any company's BBB Business Review it will explain the criteria for accreditation, whether there are complaints and how they are resolved.

Consumers have the power to not do business with any company that does not have a good marketplace record. That is the strength of consumer feedback, and why it is an integral part of the BBB model.

Tens of millions of consumers are extremely satisfied with the quality of information provided by BBB and have been for a century. The proof is that they consult our resources on a daily basis, not only to complain, but to make educated decisions.

If anyone's personal experience is that a poorly-rated company doesn't seem to care, a logical approach would be to make a purchasing or hiring decision based upon your own discretion based on what other consumers are saying.

We see very few complaints from consumers who use our system and overwhelmingly receive praise. On the flip side, we do see negative comments from business owners against whom complaints have been filed and refused to address them." —

Milford Billboard Calling Obama an 'Entry Drug to Socialism' Creates Friction

“Sure, let it stay up. But just think about the poor dude who has to work next to it.” -

“That billboard is a sign of ignorance. There's a lot of that these days.”

“Hold on a second...I understand people may disagree with this, but it is within his legal right to post it. The double standard and myopic tendencies exhibited by some Americans when it comes to Democrats and our President is laughable.” -

“The use of 'socialism' here is so ignorant that it may drive folks to find out what it really means. Many of our well-accepted institutions -- education, fire, police, free public libraries, etc. -- provide services to all on a 'socialist' basis and side by side with capitalist versions. On the other hand, those who study 'socialism' under Rush Limbaugh will never get to find out why the capitalist tooth fairy is not the solution to all problems.” –

Lawyer Forks Over $4,750 For Clients' Speed Sign Theft

“I don't like this solution where someone can allegedly steal a sign and then simply pay for it when the pressure mounts. I think anyone committing a crime should be punished for the crime. Not given a free pass if money is handed over.” -
