Brookfield Independent Winter Color Guard – Flags In Flight Show will be held this Saturday, February 2, 2013 at Brookfield High School beginning at 5:00 pm. There are 31 schools competing from all over the state of Connecticut. This is the largest opening show in its history!

Newtown’s Color Guard will be performing and with their permission the show will be dedicated to The Sandy Hook Elementary School victims and their families.

Winter Guard is “The Sport of the Arts”. It requires the grace, skill and sensitivity of a dancer or theatrical performer combined with the stamina, agility and competitiveness of an athlete to create an exciting musical competition. The roots of this Sport are firmly based in the Military and although it has evolved into a performance art, it is still as American as apple pie, with timing, synchronicity and discipline being key factors.

“We believe the core value of this activity is to allow young people to express themselves artistically as well as physically. Our students acquire a strong work ethic, self-esteem, time management skills, ability to focus on priorities, multi-tasking, self-discipline and community pride,” says George Maloney, Winter Guard Director/Show-Staff Coordinator.

Please join us anytime from 5:00 to 10:00 pm. This is a family event.

UPDATE on Norma, lost dog in Newtown: Carolee Mason (Newtown's Animal Control Officer) is watchingRead More her from a distance at the moment, armed with catfood to tempt her closer. The foster mom is on her way there again, this time with chicken, and Laura is on her way with hamburger. Problem is, this dog is VERY shy, skittish and quick to run away.
