2013 Election Results: It’s a Whole New Brookfield

Conservative candidates dominated in Tuesday's election returns.

With all results recorded from the polls, absentee and Election Day Registration (EDR) ballots, Republican and A Brookfield Party (ABP) candidates swept every race Tuesday except the Board of Selectmen.

Republican candidate Bill Tinsley won for First Selectman with 2,152 votes (51 percent) to Democratic candidate Howard Lasser’s 2,062 (49 percent).

Lasser was dropped into the pool of Selectmen candidates, however Democrat Bill Davidson (2,113) and Republican Marty Flynn (2,086) garnered more votes.

An automatic recount is triggered if the margin is less than one-half of 1 percent of total votes cast, in this case 21. The vote margin between Flynn and Lasser is 24 votes.

(Lasser said Wednesday morning that he will not be seeking a recount.)

On the Board of Finance, the two Republican candidates, Ernie Nepomuceno (2,148) and Steve O’Reilly (2,120), and two ABP candidates, Jeff Rossi (2,091) and Rob Gianazza (2,081), will be seated with the two incumbent Republican members.

Democrat Totals: Jane Miller, 1,935; Robert Marconi, 1,944; Steve Dunn, 1,926; Ron Jaffe, 1,925.

The three openings on the Board of Education went the same way, with incumbent Republican Harry Shaker gaining the most votes (2,400), ABP’s Gregory Beck second (2,352) and Republican Steve Harding Jr. third (2,320).

Democrat Totals: Laura Orban, 1,992; Ray DiStephan, 1,923.

Republican Jim Thomas (2,017) will be joining the Board of Assessment Appeals along with fellow registered Republican Kevin McCaffrey (912), who was elected solely on the ABP line and will be seated as a minority member.

There were 197 write-in votes recorded for Assessment Appeals, many likely going to Louise Trojanowski-Marconi, the former board chairman.

Three Republicans were elected to the Zoning Commission. Erik Kukk led with 2,548 votes, followed by incumbent Chairman Ryan Blessey with 2,450 and Jeffrey Cordisco with 2,295.

Democrat Totals: John Varda, 1,748; Mara Frankel, 1,747.

Three Republicans also took the Zoning Board of Appeals, with Curtis Timmerman garnering 2,831 votes, Neil Coppola getting 2,702 and George Meyerle 2,148.

Democratic candidate Jim Eagan garnered 2,123 votes.

The Planning Commission was uncontested.
