The 2014 District Klondike Derby was held January 18 at the Hoyt Scout Reservation in Redding. Cub Scout Pack 135 Webelos dens were invited to attend this Boy Scout event and participated in the Saturday activities. Our Webelos embodied the derby theme: "physically strong and mentally awake" by braving a winter snowstorm and cold temps.
They had constructed four team sleds during a den meeting and later raced them at the Redding scout site, while participating in boy scout classics such as Fire Building and Orienteering, First Aid, Knots, Two-Man Saw, Blindfolded Tent Building stations.
Chris Wallin, Webelos I Den 3 leader, said “the boys had a great time pulling the sled, being outside, and taking part in all of the activities. It was a long, cold, wet day, but they did a great job!”
