Join Our Lose to Win Program this Winter

This time of year, we are all busy with preparations for the Holiday season. The decorations are being hung, the Holiday cookies are being baked and New Year’s Resolutions are on the horizon. Throughout the holidays, we often put our own health and wellbeing lower on our list of priorities.

The Y is committed to making you a priority. For the sixth year in a row, the  Greenknoll and Boughton Street branches of the Y are pleased to offer the Lose to Win program. Lose to Win is a 12 week program designed to help you lose or maintain your weight through physical activity and nutrition education. Participants are placed on a 6-person team, which they can pick themselves or a member of the program staff can place them on. Lose to Win is a team-oriented competition but the emphasis is on you.

Each week, participants are encouraged to meet goals involving physical activity, attending nutrition classes, and various group oriented challenges. Participation in the challenges provides participants the opportunity to explore new areas of the facility, attend new classes, and be part of a team oriented competition, all while working toward their individual goals. In previous years, members that have been part of the program have lost 8 inches from their waist, and lost 12% of their body weight. More importantly, they created lasting behavior changes such as reading nutrition labels before they shop, reducing their sugar intake and understanding correct portion sizes. In addition, they have accomplished things they never thought possible, such as completing 5Ks, fitting into new jean sizes and having more energy for day to day activities.

Why should you join the Lose to Win Program? Where else can you find the support of a knowledgeable staff of trainers, group instructors and health educators that are dedicated to helping you fulfill your personal commitments? If that’s not enough to convince you, you’ll have a whole team of new friends and supporters working with you toward similar goals.

Stop by the Greenknoll or Boughton Street branch to register. In order to register for the program, you must be a member of the Y. Registration will open December 18th and the cost is $80 per person (after January 5th the cost increases to $100). Please contact Lisa O’Connor at the Greenknoll branch (203-775-4444 ext. 135 or loconnor@regionalymca.org) with any questions. We look forward to seeing you “win” with us at the Kick Off event on January 12, 2014.
