14 Most, Least Expensive CT Towns to Own a Home

Counting down Connecticut communities with the highest and lowest monthly costs for homeowners.

As we continue to break down the numbers in search of the best community in Connecticut to buy real estate, this week Patch is counting down the most and least expensive towns (or communities) to own a home.

Data from the American Community Survey (part of the U.S. Census Bureau) shows the median monthly housing costs for homeowners in Connecticut over a 5-year average from 2008-2012.

The figures on monthly housing costs include real estate taxes, property insurance, homeowner association fees, cooperative or condominium fees, mobile home park fees, land rent, utilities and mortgages. (The numbers do not include maintenance and repairs, reverse annuity mortgages or home-equity credit.)

The lists also include monthly costs broken out by homeowners with and without mortgages.

The Connecticut communities with the highest costs per month are show above and the 14 cheapest communities for homeowners are listed below. Find information on every zip code in the state using this interactive map.
