Board of Ethics Moves One Complaint to Hearing, Denies Another

Board will consider third complaint Friday and determine what is public knowledge and when.

Brookfield’s Board of Ethics met Thursday afternoon to consider two of three ethics complaints filed with the board and determine whether there is probable cause to move forward on either.

The board was tasked with reviewing the individual complaints and deciding whether probable cause existed to move forward with a hearing based solely on the evidence provided within the complaint.

After two executive sessions — the first lasting 15 minutes and the second 25 minutes — the board voted unanimously against recommending a complaint hearing on the first and to move forward on the second.

A complaint hearing has been tentatively scheduled for Jan. 9.

The board is scheduled to meet again at 8:30 a.m. on Friday to consider a third complaint.

According to Ethics Board members, the three complaints filed concern three distinct persons or incidents, however the substance of the complaints are currently confidential, including who filed and who is the subject of the filing.

Before Friday’s meeting, members of the board will be speaking with their attorney about when information becomes public after probable cause is determined.

Complaints in which probable cause was not found will remain confidential.
