Plan For Scuba Scoops Gelato Comes To Fruition

When Gary Gordon first opened the Dive Shop Aquatic Center on Federal Road five years ago, he planned to also sell gelato and frozen yogurt out of the shop. That plan came to fruition in October with Scuba Scoops.

"The little kids get done with their swim lessons and say, 'Oh mommy, can I get a gelato,' because they did good," Gordon said, noting that he has a built in customer base but is looking forward to his first summer season.

Gordon said Wednesday that Scuba Scoops was always part of the plan but with two newly opened frozen yogurt shops in town and rumors of more coming soon, "Everybody else has jumped on the bandwagon."

Scuba Scoops stands out, according to Gordon, because they also offer gelato and sorbet made fresh on site. These options meld well with the Dive Shop's focus on fitness, as they are much lower in sugar than ice cream and have only about 5 percent fat (compared to around 16 percent in ice cream).

The shop has 16 flavors of gelato and sorbet daily, plus assorted flavors of frozen yogurt.
