Brookfield Native Goes From Hard Wares To Soft Serve

Brookfield native and longtime family owners of the True Value just off Four Corners has returned to town to open a Peachwave Frozen yogurt franchise.

Scott Clifford, who grew up around the corner on Ironworks, said he, his father and two brothers opened the first Peachwave in Connecticut in Bethel (on the former site of their True Value store there) and decided to expand with their success. The family now owns five storefronts, including Bethel, Danbury, Newtown, Ridgefield and now Brookfield.

Clifford, a contractor for 20 years who built all the locations himself, said though their opening month has been rainy, business has been good.

"Two of the three weekends were completely washed out but we still did great," he said. "If you can do business when it's raining and 30degrees out, you can do business anytime."

With two other frozen soft-serve places opening recently in Brookfield, Clifford noted that Peachwave's self serve format is unique.

"It's a creative process," he said, as they offer 16 flavors and over 70 toppings daily. "Plus it gives the kids something to do so they're not going crazy waiting in line."

Clifford added that he is excited for future development planned for the Town Center District, intended to bring residential living and more pedestrian-friendly shopping to the area.
