In my working life I was an art director at a large advertising agency in New York City working on accounts like Procter & Gamble, General Foods and Texaco. While commuting on Metro North, I wrote two novels; Root Of All Evil and The Final Deception published by Berkley/Putnam, both thrillers.

So how did someone trained in art become a writer?

It was all because of the creative director at the agency. He thought that art directors were barely literate, if they read at all. I proved him wrong by putting him in Root Of All Evil where I killed him off in the second chapter. Revenge was very sweet.

Now that I am retired, living the life on Candlewood Lake in Brookfield, I have all the time in the world to write. Over the past few years I’ve written six new thrillers all ebooks on Amazon.com. Along with swimming and sailing on the lake, it’s filled my days with a lot of fun.

Every morning I go into a room where my characters are all sitting around a table. They look at me and ask, “What are we going to do today, Bob?” The possibilities are endless. Some days we’re off to the south side of Chicago catching drug dealers. Other days we’re at CIA headquarters in Virginia, or in Paris or the jungles of Colombia. Every day is exciting.

But the real payoff is to hear from my readers. When I get an email saying they couldn’t put the book down or spent five hours involved in the book’s plot, that makes my day.

It’s what writing is all about.
