Thanks Susan! I agree it can be fun when it isn't forced on you. This week was tough also because of the other things we were supposed to be doing - school, work, etc...

Thank you, Carol. I tried to tough it out, really, I did! I hope you and yours are powered up and doing well! :)

A babbling maniac is exactly what I turned into! Thank you for keeping me updated on Facebook. :) Taking water from the brook was Dave's idea. I never would have thought of it in my panicked state!

Not yet - but I know that we need to buy one! I would really love to outfit our house with solar power instead, but that is a substantially larger investment.

ReplyThis is an excellent explanation of "Lyme Wars." Thank you for explaining it so thoroughly and helping people understand. I was infected with Lyme 6years ago and was misdiagnosed. In December I was diagnosed with a different tick borne illness (erlichiosis) and my doctor refused to treat me for Lyme, based on one type of blood test...a different test (Western Blot) confirmed that I did, in fact, have Lyme. I am slowly getting better and hope to be symptom free soon. It is very difficult for patients to navigate the system, which makes treatment difficult.

ReplyI think providing students with iPads is a terrific, but I have a few concerns regarding security. I hope that they will be taught to protect their identity (personal and financial information online) as well as their reputation on social media, which can follow them for years. This is an issue with internet use in general, but parents will be less able to monitor their activity on the iPad.
I think the experience of using collaborative software will be extremely valuable, more so than learning to use an iPad, which is a breeze (my four year-old can do it). -

ReplyAt a meeting with parents on March 24 (http://brookfield.patch.com/articles/bhs-raises-the-bar-for-students), Art Colley said that the district was financing the iPad initiative by restructuring copier leases, therefore freeing up money to finance the project. Since the money was targeted at equipment, it is considered a budget neutral program.
I believe the costs for the iPad program will be in the area of $80K.

I was wondering the same thing. I've spoken to four families, all in different neighborhoods of Brookfield, all slated for 11 pm on Sunday.
