The cornerstone on Center School on Obtuse Hill reads: "Brookfield School, Erected A.D. 1938."…More Center was then known as the Consolidated School, as the building brought together all the one-room school houses in Brookfield. Even today Center School has the distinction of being the only completely wooden school left in Connecticut. </p> <p>Presently, Center School is Brookfield children's introduction to school, offering preschool, kindergarten and first grade. Each day approximately 420 children walk through the doors. The faculty includes the principal, 22 classroom teachers, art, music and computer departments and a gym. In addition, the school offers a special education department, a social worker and a school psychologist. Non-certified staff includes office staff, paraprofessionals and custodians. </p>
