Isn't the name enough of a warning? I bet you don't find many roads in Nebraska called…Read More "Mountain".
New Englander May 16, 2013 at 07:47 am
When I take that road I usually put my car in the lowest gear and crawl down the hill no matter what…Read More the weather is. That road is a nightmare. Have they thought of putting some type of flashing lights and warning signs to alert people to slow down that might not be familiar with it.

It shows how much new laws are thought through before shoving them down our throats - what idiots!
Michael Gianfranceschi May 11, 2013 at 05:17 pm
you mean there are unintended consequences??? huh.... go figure.

Previous gun laws in Connecticut were more carefully crafted and considered before signing into than…Read More this latest Malloy gun law (1160). Our previous gun laws were written to coordinate with other laws already on the books and systems already in place. This latest gun law is an embarrassing mess. The Governor and Legislator should be ashamed to dump this confusing and self-contradictory morass onto state & local Law Enforcement without clear directions.
As time goes on, this poorly written law will offer many opportunities for legal challenges. Eventually it will probably be overturned (or greatly changed) by the courts

I think this is just a wonderful way to recognize and give thanks to Brookfield's finest. Brookfield…Read More police officers are dedicated to our community and do a job well done. This is an outstanding token of appreciation by our students, faculty and administrators. It is nice to see this lovely gesture.

Someone has to balance the irrational exuberance. Besides, diversity is what America's all about…Read More GG....and what did I say that was negative? Welcoming them to Brookfield is negative?
GG Smith May 10, 2013 at 12:17 am
Mr. DeVaux; all of your comments are so negative. If you hate Brookfield so much why dont you move?

And the boys don't get paid the all volunteer and do a great job.

So they will not accept illegal drugs. What's the sense in that? Let's see...one has an illegal…Read More drug in their house: (1) throw it in the garbage (where it certainly will not help they environment); (2) flush it down the toilet (ditto) ; (3) sell it and make money (certainly will not help the buyer); or (4) turn it in to the police (oops, this option not available).

By the way, I could site examples of individuals I have known well who exemplify both the pros and…Read More the cons of my query.

Glad to see such a program as this "drug take back. I only wish that it could include…Read More non-prescription drugs as well. Good sense in the use of prescription drugs would always be prudent. Looking around, we can all observe folks behind the wheel any where we travel who are obviously not following the cautions on those labels, esp. "do not operate machinery or vehicles while using this..." Also, I would mention the unauthorized use of prescriptions that are carelessly left in medicine cabinets for children - and others - to find and "experiment" with. Just this morning, I heard on
radio that a commercial airline pilot was drug-tested and found to have been using marihuana! After being fired, his union fought to have him rehired. I do not know the outcome. His argument was that he used it for pain, but was never under the influence of the drug when he flew a plane. How about a pilot, or a doctor or train engineer, for example, on anti-depressants or strong pain-killers performing their duties? Could one be excused for those things? Same thing goes for alcohol. It can be argued that what a person does on his or her own leisure time is of no importance to anyone else. It might be interesting to see what kind of slants some of you might put on this question. Maybe a super-star pilot, doctor, or other could be responsible enough to smoke pot or use prescriptions off duty in moderation, and still be able to look out for the safety and well-being of others. Maybe. Maybe...

It's really amazing how many people volunteer to be firefighters. Thank you to all they do for the…Read More town. Please make sure to donate when they have their annual fund drive!! I've always wondered if they get any type of tax break for all they do - they really should!!
Bobby Caselnova April 22, 2013 at 01:19 pm
You're completely missing my point. Now that I re-read what I said, it sounded like I was bashing…Read More the police a little too much, which wasn't what I was trying to say. I was trying to point out that it's unfair that officers in peaceful places, like Brookfield, get paid about 50% more base salary than the officers in dangerous cities where they're constantly at great risk every day. I didn't mean to make it sound like our cops deserve less; the cops in dangerous places deserve more. I don't think you can really put a price on what cops do though.
Bobby Caselnova April 22, 2013 at 01:09 pm
Thanks for the info Mike, didn't know that. All I knew was that their base salary is much higher…Read More than most PD's. And to answer your question, yes I actually would do it for that money, I'd actually do it for even less. I think the job the police do is basically what every good, able-bodied citizen's job should be. I would love to be a police officer, especially in this town that I grew up in, and not for the money. I didn't mean to bash the police around here, we have some GREAT people in that department. But I've also seen a handful who I think are only in it for the paycheck and a sense of power. I guess that's not surprising though, in every group of people you have the great, the good, and the bad.

Yeah, the boys in Newtown make about the same. Did they get paid too much to go through what they…Read More went through, Bobby?

Let’s see, the Federal and State governments are on the verge of banning literally millions of…Read More guns and magazines that are currently lawfully owned by honest citizens. At the same time the same laws will expose millions of citizens to felony arrest, imprisonment, and loss of voting and professional rights. Now cant the Police and the news media get basic facts of the story straight? How often do they need to change the story?
Are they all completely incompetent, or perhaps they just don’t care about the magnitude of this incredible Failure?

A statement from Stephen J. Sedensky III, State’s Attorney for the Judicial District of…Read More Danbury, clarifies what several readers have pointed out as factual inaccuracies contained in the court documents. Sedensky's statement reads, in part:
"The released search warrants were obtained on December 14, 15, 16, 2012, within a short time of the shootings. Subsequent investigation revealed that shootings took place in two of the classrooms, not three, and that the shooter was not wearing a bullet-proof vest, nor was he a teenager."
The full statement may be found at the following link: http://www.ct.gov/csao/cwp/view.asp?a=1801&Q=521714

Schools mishandling a student??? How about parenting?? Parents don't understand how to raise a child…Read More and they look to the schools to fix everything. Valid point about guns but blaming the schools is ridiculous. Think. If parents took responsibility for their children they would teach their kids about responsibility. We have a gun problem and we have a responsibility problem. Push it off on someone else is the easy way out . Think.

Woodbridge police say they charged a local animal control officer with animal cruelty because she…Read More slammed a small dog against a wall. Fifty-nine-year-old Karen Lombardi was arrested Monday, but details of the allegations weren't released at the time. An arrest warrant obtained by the New Haven Register says a kennel keeper told police the incident involving a terrier named Timone happened in November. The keeper said she was having trouble getting an outfit on the dog when Lombardi came over and slammed the dog into a wall while yelling at it to hold still. Lombardi's lawyer says she'll plead not guilty next week and questions the co-workers' motives. State Rep. Diana Urban of Stonington says she's outraged Police Chief Eugene Marcucci has decided not to suspend Lombardi.
