The Parks & Recreation Department actually consists of two different components of Leisure Services. Recreational programming and the Parks/School Grounds Department.

It is the Recreation Departments responsibility to develop and offer a wide variety of quality recreational, educational, cultural and special events to the public at the lowest possible cost while servicing all age groups in the town. All programs and the Town Beach run on what is referred to as a self-sustaining account. All fees collected are applied to the total cost of the programs, including instructor salaries, facility rentals, program supplies, brochure printing and mailing, as well as the department's administrative assistant. 

The Parks Maintenance Crew maintains more than 725 acres of municipal land. These include 10 parks, 18 ball fields, 4 schools, the municipal complex, police station, fire stations, library and several traffic islands.
