The owner and staff are horribly insensitive and rude! During my brother’s service, one of the staff was sitting in a room, texting on his phone instead of helping the visitors. Another staff was trying to chat about sports with one of my friends who didn’t know him. None of the staff tried to help form a receiving line and there ended up being a mass of people wandering around trying to figure out where to get in line. I wrote and personally delivered a letter to the owner stating these things. He responded by snickering and grunting at me! All I was looking for was a sincere apology and the assurance that this would never happen again. I was shocked to not only receive nothing even close to an apology, but to be treated in such a heartless manner after I had just lost my little brother.
His attitude prompted me to look into funeral home laws, and I found out that this funeral home actually did break some of the laws regarding providing specific price lists. When someone you love dies, you are left in a highly vulnerable state, and some funeral homes will take advantage of this. Every one of us will unfortunately have to deal with a funeral home at some point in our lives. The websites for the Funeral Consumer’s Alliance and the Federal Trade Commission outline the basic laws that funeral homes have to follow. Please familiarize yourselves with them, I would hate for anyone to be treated the way my family and I were treated by Brookfield Funeral Home.
