Zipping

George Jetson steps into the home's pod and bids his family, "Goodbye." A nano-second passes and George leaves this enclosure and steps into his office. Pretty amazing! Certainly the idea of time travel spurs one's imagination.

This concept may soon find a market outside of the cartoon world. Melissa Knowles of Trending Now tells of the futuristic High-Speed Tube that could bring six passengers from Los Angeles to New York in 45 minutes.
Called the Evacuated Tube Transport, (ETT), the ET3 company says that magnetic levitation would allow this tube to speed along corridors at 4,000 miles per hour. Founder and CEO of ET3, Daryl Oster, says that the idea came to him as he watched the sleek rail cars in China

I'm not one for driving, having been in a terrifying car accident. I also saw the damage to a dear friend's SUV when it collided head-on with a truck. Yes, I do drive...but not far and not fast. Called Hodophobia, this fear of traveling cousin has certainly hampered my ability to get around. From time to time I take the bus, but not without some anxiety as it careens from lane to lane. Perhaps the driver feels somewhat invincible in such a large vehicle? I do wish that I could share that feeling!

Not surprisingly, Pod Travel appeals to me. My phobia could be relieved and time management would be addressed. I can imagine zipping from here to there, perhaps dressed in a sleek nylon-poly suit as fits this image. I would, however, need to have a few questions answered prior to my virgin outing in such a gizmo; Could I take my cat to the Vet's via pod? Would one need to have an empty stomach for this type of travel? Would deceleration cause fly-away-hair syndrome? And, finally, can one visit a McDonald's drive-through window?

Of course, the cost of a ticket might be prohibitive for me and I'm not sure how this concept would effect the environment. All in all, at this point, I'd have to say that Pod Travel is sounding awesome and that the next decade may well see a real George Jetson commuting to work.

Are there any Mathematicians game to tell us how long it would take to Pod Travel from Kohls' to Costco's?
