The Urban Archeologist: Don't Toss Your Cookies!

An Ad quiz worth taking

What is America’s favorite cookie? Is it Chips Ahoy! Is it Oreo? Maybe it doesn’t come from a store maybe being America's favorite cookie means a little bit more. Can anyone argue against homemade cookies being the best without a serious fight?

The question is - Do we need a favorite cookie? Is this really important? Eathquakes, Crimea, lost jetliner and we’re supposed to be concerned that our favorite cookie is or isn’t #1? We know that advertisers would have you think differently, especially advertisers of the mid 20th century.

Take a look at the ad above, the joy I get from looking at these ads comes from the perspective of the passage of time. The brands that are gone, and even some that are still around looking just a little trite and awkward.

What I want you to see in the Hydrox ad is what I consider to be a glaring error. Can you spot it, or does everything seem fine? If you want the answer, click here to see it, and a little Hydrox history as well.
