Hunting for treasure on the weekends by following signs on phone poles, classified ads, or Internet sites is a gamble. If you’ve been reading my Patch posts or visiting my blog (link) you may be thinking that I return from every hunt with all kinds of bounty. I wish that were true.

If I had the kind of success 400 hundred blog posts and 100 patch articles allude to, I would be classified as a hoarder. I certainly wouldn’t have a family; well, I’d still be married to my wife and the father of a 10 year-old, I just might not be able to find them in the pile. When I come home after a day of digging with just a single item, that’s not always a bad thing.

In these past few weeks, the pickings have been slim. Truthfully, work and family obligations have meant that treasure hunting has to take a back seat. I don’t panic, even on a good weekend I can’t get to them all. When I do get to hunt, I have to look more carefully, and sometimes make the smallest oddest purchases.

There were a large number of older books that were fun to flip through, but nothing good was hidden inside. Thinking this was it, I scanned over the small items on a table. The looks of one item struck me funny.

The “Cuss Box” image above was not in the greatest shape, but that only signified to me that it was old. The artwork was cute and the reverse side with a price list per cuss “level” was even better. There was some writing on the cover that was obscured and made me want to take a magnifier to it. To see what was inside the box, continue reading the story here.
