How to Find Estate Sale Treasure

A few tips on how to pick the best sale and a new video to prove it.

Every weekend I go treasure hunting, and every weekend I am confronted with the same challenge: Which sale is the one I should go to? If there are 5 sales in a 10-mile radius, there’s a good chance I can get to all of them.

However, with just the slightest increase area and quantity of listings – there’s a problem. While you may get to most of them, it is impossible to get to them all Even more impossible is the ability to get to them early, before the good stuff goes to the other urban archeologists.

I have stated in the past that I am not an “early-bird,” but as I dig deeper for treasure and a story, getting to the best sales early is the way to go.

Finding several estate sales among the tag and garage sales on Saturday, I studied the descriptions and decided, surprisingly, to not choose an estate sale. I went instead with a tag sale describing an old home on waterfront property overlooking Long Island Sound.

While descriptions themselves can be deceiving, this sale looked like a “dig” and it was. Click here to see more tips and watch the video of this interesting estate from the 1920’s
