Lately I’ve been having second thoughts.
Anyone who is familiar with my work knows how seriously I take the
theory of “Honing of the Niche”, both for marketing 101 purposes as well as

for SEO and keyword strategies.
Almost exactly a year ago I was on the road towards new Niche-dom.

I’d had a big revelation when away on a workshop weekend in sunny
California that my services were not just meant to be geared towards
medical professionals and doctors, but to "Mompreneurs" as well.
Since then, one year down the road, what’s been hitting me smack
in the face is that just because I’ve been targeting these
wonderful Mom entrepreneurs, because I am one of them,
that does not necessarily equate with the audience who is
seeking me out.
Not for a lack of trying.
No, I've been seeding this market patiently, faithfully
and earnestly, with content, speaking engagements, guest posts, articles,
SEO,
you name it
for a good year now. Because I really, really want to help them.
They are my tribe!
Is that a good enough reason? Have I been falling on deaf ears?
Question: just because you WANT it to be so, is that a good enough
reason to beat your head against a brick wall?
Because here’s what has happened in the last year: my niche has
sought me out, and guess what? It has not been the mompreneurs I so
channeled it to be. Deep sigh....
My list has, in fact, nearly exploded over the last 12 months, with more
warm leads than I’ve ever had, and a faithful audience of many, many
women in business, but alas, these are not the businesses who are actively
seeking me out and paying me money to strategize and grow their
businesses.
I think this is fodder for another blog post, but not here.
Who is seeking me out and filing in line for my services are in fact the
medical practices (original niche #1) and small mostly male owned companies
who are frustrated with their lack of “exposure”.
It’s smacked me upside the head.
This was not the way it was supposed to turn out.
And yet…do we turn our nose up at the folks that are showing up
at our doors….or do we perhaps listen to the universe talking and
say Welcome! So glad to see you?
I think the latter!
And so here we are.
The people that heard me were the people who were not afraid of spending the
money to get the results they needed.
And results talk, and create credibility, which creates more business.
And so on and so forth.
So here's this weeks marketing words of wisdom:
listen to the clear, still voice inside you, sure, but listen also,
as I’ve decided to do,
to the universe.... which might be telling you something quite unexpected,
and different.
And don’t fight it. It might just be what was meant to be.
After all, you don’t want to be the next Blockbuster do you?
