Severe Weather Expected Thursday

Cluster of thunderstorms might roll in from the Great Lakes Thursday evening.

The National Weather Service (NWS) has forecasted severe thunderstorms Thursday morning that could produce damaging winds, hail and even tornadoes. According to early projections, the worst of the storm is expected to hit the northern area of the forecast, including Fairfield Count and Brookfield.

Weather Channel's Severe Weather Expert Dr. Greg Forbes says that it's possible that a derecho, a widespread damaging wind event, could be ongoing during the morning hours from portions of New York State to central and southern New England.

According to the NWS, a cluseter of thunderstorms is forming over the Great Lakes and will move toward the Lower Hudson Valley and into Connecticut Thursday morning.

The storms have the potential to produce "strong winds and isolated tornadoes."

The weather service is also predicting a moderate risk for more severe thunderstorms Thursday afternoon and evening, with the "main threat from damaging winds and localized heavy rainfall."
