2011 Summer Concert Series Kicks Off at the Ives Concert Park

Ives Concert Park Summer Series opens June 27th with Michael Franti & Spearhead with Grace Potter & The Nocturnals

It’s time to start the summer festivities at the Ives Concert Park in Danbury CT, and June 27th is your first chance to join the party.

The Union Savings Bank 2011 Summer Concert Series at the Ives Concert Park opens for the season on June 27th with 2 great artists in one show.

Performing will be Michael Franti & Spearhead with Grace Potter & The Nocturnals.

Tickets for the show are $26 for general admission lawn seats, and $32 or $37 for reserved seats. Tickets are on sale now at www.premierboxoffice.com, or 1-866-55-TICKETS. 

Michael Franti is the creator and lead vocalist of Michael Franti & Spearhead, a band that blends reggae, funk, folk, jazz, hip hop and rock.  Their single, “Say Hey” (I love you), reached #18 on the US Hot 100. The song was used on the NBC series Mercy, in the 2010 film Valentine’s Day, and was featured on the 2010 soundtrack for the World Cup South Africa.

His hits include “Shake It”, “Anytime You Need Me”, “The Thing that Helps Me Get Through”, and “I’ll Be Waiting”.

Opening Act for the evening is the one and only Grace Potter and the Nocturnals.

Lead singer Grace Potter has been compared to Tina Turner, Bonnie Raitt, Melissa Etheridge, and Janis Joplin.  The band has toured supporting Gov’t Mule, The Black Crowes, and the Dave Matthew’s Band.

The band released their third studio recording, Grace Potter and the Nocturnals, on June 8, 2010. The album peaked at #5 on iTunes Top 100 album and #2 on iTunes Rock Albums Chart. The opening track, "Paris (Ooh La La)", and iTunes bonus track "Fooling Myself" was in the Top 40 and Top 100, respectively, on iTunes Rock Songs Chart.

Potter’s songs have been featured on the TV shows One Tree Hill, Brothers and Sisters, ER, Grey’s Anatomy, and Ally My Children.

The band has also performed on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Good Morning America, and “The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson”.
