Results From Final Week Of Regular Season And First Round Of SWC Playoffs

Baseball (5-15, 3-11): The boy's enjoyed a week of traveling, playing a game at the Tampa Bay Rays Class A facility in Fishkill, N.Y., Dutchess Stadium against New Fairfield (9-10, 5-7) on Monday night and taking a trip to Cooperstown to play in Doubleday Park against Danbury (12-8, 10-8) on Friday morning.  Unfortunately the baseball team didn't get to celebrate a win in either game, or in the other two games they played this week, including a disappointing 11-5 senior day loss to the Rebels on Thursday.  New Fairfield beat the Bobcats 11-6 in Monday's game, while Danbury enjoyed an 8-1 victory in the field of dreams. Pomperaug (18-2, 9-2) also knocked off the boy's 6-0 in a road game played on Wednesday.

Softball (19-1, 13-1): The Lady Bobcats were a perfect 4-0 on the week, completing their incredible regular season with a big 2-1 win at  Lauralton Hall (15-3, 13-2) on Saturday.  The win gave Brookfield the number two seed in this week's SWC playoffs.  They will play at home on Tuesday against Pomperaug at 4 p.m. The girls scored both of their runs in the sixth inning, getting RBIs from Felicia Lennon and Stephanie Moss.  They got a 3-0 shutout win on senior day against Bethel (6-13, 5-8) on Thursday afternoon.  Lennon again had the big hit in the win.  For starting pitcher Kayla Berardi it was her second shutout in as many days as she led the Lady Bobcats in a 7-0 win at Pomperaug (10-10, 9-10) on Wednesday.  The girls opened the week with a 14-3 victory at home against New Fairfield (12-8, 9-5).

Boys Lacrosse (11-6, 8-4): The Boys LAX team finished the regular season strong by getting a last-second 8-7 victory over non-conference opponent Xavier (11-5, 8-3) at home and then blasting Pomperaug (8-8-1, 7-6) 15-5 on the road to run their win streak to five games.  The victories gave them the number six seed and set up a rematch with rival and number three seeded Newtown (12-5, 9-3) in the SWC quarterfinals who they had just beaten the previous week in a . Again they would travel to Newtown's Blue & Gold stadium but this time the result would be much different.  They took a quick 1-0 lead but then fell behind 6-1 in the 1st quarter and never recovered, eventually falling 13-5 and getting knocked out of the playoffs.  They will now set their sights on the state tournament as they await their opponent.

Girls Lacrosse (14-3, 10-2): The Lady Bobcats had two SWC wins, one on the road and one at home on senior night to finish the regular season.  First they took care of Lauralton Hall (4-10, 2-9) with a solid 16-8 win on Monday.  Seniors Jackie Brown and Alexa Foldy led the team with six and four goals apiece in the victory. They then came home for senior night and clinched the number two seed in the SWC playoffs with a convincing 23-15 win over Pomperaug (9-6-1, 9-4-1).  With the two-seed came a home game in the quarterfinal of the playoffs against seventh seeded Joel Barlow (7-10, 7-6).  They raced out to a 9-2 halftime lead against the Lady Falcons but needed to rely on their defense in the second half to hold on for a 12-8 victory.  Junior Kathryn Marron was the star of the game scoring seven goals.  The Lady Bobcats will now face sixth-seeded New Fairfield (9-6, 7-5) at the home of the Lady Rebels on Tuesday in the semi-finals.

Boys Tennis (6-8): The tennis team finished the season with a 5-2 win at Immaculate (3-12) on Monday.  The victory ended a three game losing streak that had knocked the boy's out of playoff contention.  Seniors Brendan Allen and Connor Ring both won their final singles matches in straight sets.  Max Robbins also earned a singles match victory.  In doubles the senior team of Brendan Cullen/Ryan Goldstein won their final match at love in straight sets while senior Eric Cobuzzi teamed up with underclassmen Kyle Tolle for a straight set at love to win in his final match.
