Brookfield High Sports Results For Week Of 4/26/10 - 5/1/10

Baseball (4-6, 1-6): The Bobcats lost a rain rescheduled game at Newtown (7-4, 3-3) on Tuesday 5-3.  They were swept by the Nighthawks in the season series.  The boy's bounced back on Wednesday with a gritty 5-4 win over Stratford (1-10, 0-5) in brutally cold conditions at home.  Centerfielder Janco Cornelius led the team by going 3-for-3 and stealing home.  On Friday they fell at home 9-4 to Notre Dame, Fairfield (4-7, 4-2).

Softball (9-1, 5-1): The Lady Bobcats bounced back from their disappointing defeat to undefeated Newtown (10-0, 7-0) last week by pounding out two "mercy rule" home wins, both ending in five innings.  First they finished off Stratford (3-7, 0-5) 13-0 on Wednesday and then they knocked around Notre Dame, Fairfield (3-8, 2-6) 12-0 on Friday.  Kayla Berardi was the winning pitcher in both games allowing no hits to the Lady Lancers (Notre Dame).  First baseman Stephanie Moss had big offensive games in both victories.

Boys Lacrosse (5-3, 3-3): The Bobcats recovered from a tough road loss at Weston (9-0, 6-0) Monday by crushing rival Immaculate (2-7, 0-5) at home Wednesday. The undefeated Trojans made life miserable for Brookfield by putting 37 shots on goal in the 13-3 loss.  The Bobcats then put up 39 shots in an impressive 17-7 win over the Mustangs.  Tom Gilligan, Matt Bonavita and Matt Bonn each had five goals in the victory.

Girls Lacrosse (6-2, 5-2): The Lady Bobcats got a thrilling come-from behind road win against rival Immaculate (5-2, 3-2) on Wednesday.  Down 7-2 in the first half, Brookfield rallied for an 11-10 win.  Emily Leonard had four goals including the game-winner.  They then lost a road game to Weston (6-4, 4-3) 10-9 on Friday.  It was their third consecutive one-goal game, all coming during a four-game road trip.

Boys Tennis (4-3): The Bobcats moved their record back above .500 by shutting out Notre Dame, Fairfield (0-4) 7-0 on Friday.  Brian Hall, Max Robbins and Brendan Allen won their singles matches while the others were won on forfiet.  It was the only event for the tennis team this week.  They are home Monday against New Fairfield (4-5) before going on the road to Bethel (2-3) and Masuk (4-3) Wednesday and Thursday.

Girls Tennis (5-3): The girls were rained out in their only scheduled match this week.  They have a full schedule for the coming week, playing at New Fairfield (6-2) Monday before returning home to face Bethel (2-6) and Masuk (4-4) on Tuesday and Thursday.

Golf (5-2, 3-1): The Brookfield club picked up three wins this week. They defeated Stratford 182-193 at the Mill River Country Club on Tuesday, led by senior Pat Colavito and junior Blake Boelke, who both shot 43.  The Bobcats then downed Pomperaug (6-2, 4-1) and Notre Dame, Fairfield (1-7, 1-4) in a tri-match 168, 171 and 225 on Thursday.  Boelke went low with a round of 37 while Colavito shot a 42 and Danny Burkhardt shot a 43 in the match played at Sunset Hill Golf Club.
