Soccer: Boys Advance to Semis; Girls Fall to Immaculate
Bobcats defeat Masuk 3-1 in SWC playoffs, Lady Bobcats ousted by Immaculate.
A.J. Sussingham scored three times and the Brookfield defense withstood an all out second half attack to turn back Masuk 3-1 in the quarterfinals of the SWC playoffs Friday night before a large and loud crowd at Brookfield Stadium.
Sussingham got the scoring started midway through the first half by taking Billy Hunt's throw-in and driving it high and deep into the far side of the net for a 1-0 lead that lasted into the second half.
Masuk's determined pressure then produced the tying goal and the momentum seemed to swing in the visitor's favor until Lukas Rodrigues' nicely placed crossing pass found Sussingham for a 2-1 Bobcat lead with 10 minutes to play. Goalkeeper Austin DaCunha's diving save in the last minute kept Bobcats ahead and Mike Goulart's long pass sprung Sussingham for a breakaway goal and the hat trick in the final seconds.
