LAX Teams Finish on Down Note; Track & Field Ready for SWCs

Lacrosse teams head to postseason with losses. Track & Field gears up for Conference Finals.

Boys Lacrosse (8-8, 6-6):

The back and forth season for the Bobcats continued this week as they dodged raindrops to get in three games.  After moving their record to a high-water mark of 8-6 with a win over Stratford on Monday, they dropped their last two games of the regular season to finish with a .500 record.

In Monday's win at home over the Red Devils, the team's offense and defense was at its best, completely dominating the opposition 16-1.

They followed that performance up with an equally disappointing losses.  On Tuesday they traveled to Weston where they were defeated by the Trojans 11-3. On Thursday they played their final home game of the year, losing to Joel Barlow 11-2.

The win over Stratford qualified them for a Class M State Playoff berth.  Before the loss to Barlow they were ranked 13th in the Standings.

Their 6-6 conference record had them finishing in seventh place in the SWC, which could have them facing the one-loss Barlow squad in the quarterfinals in Redding on Monday.

Girls Lacrosse (10-6, 9-5):

The rainy week was unkind to the previously red-hot Lady Bobcats.  Their eight-game conference winning streak went by the boards as they dropped their final two games of the regular season.

Playing at home on Tuesday in the rain, Brookfield saw Weston pull-out a 13-12 victory when they scored the game-winning goal with 1:04 remaining.  The Lady Trojans are enjoying their best season on record, having compiled an 11-5 mark.

On Thursday, the rain-soaked area led to the Lady Bobcats game being moved from Redding to Brookfield and the change in location didn't work out well as the team fell 18-15 to Joel Barlow.

The loss to Weston kept Brookfield from moving into the top four seeds of the upcoming SWC playoffs, which means they will play an opening round road game on Monday.  Depending on remaining other results it appears as if they will finish as the sixth seed and be matched up with New Fairfield, who they recently beat in the wildest game of the season, 23-20.  The Lady Rebels knocked Brookfield out of the SWCs last year, running by them in the semi-final played at New Fairfield.

The girls have qualified for a berth in the Class M State playoffs; they are currently ranked 11th.

The boys and girls track & field teams are ready to compete in the SWC Championships on Monday to be held at Bethel High School. The two teams finished their regular seasons this week in meets against Pomperaug, New Milford and Masuk.
