Lady Bobcats Soccer Turns Back Green Wave 4-0

BHS girls soccer gets their first win of the season to start off 1-0-2.

After opening the SWC soccer season last week with draws against Bunnell (1-1) and Lauralton Hall (0-0), the Brookfield Lady Bobcats offense erupted for four second-half goals to defeat a very determined New Milford Green Wave side before a large and enthusiastic crowd Thursday night under the lights at BHS.

Junior striker Kelly Bastura got the scoring started converting senior Carly Cobol's well-placed corner kick for a 1-0 lead in the 55th minute. Junior goalkeeper Steph Hunt (11 saves) and the staunch, hustling defense led by seniors Paulina Harron and Jess Becker and junior Jasmine DaSilva, and senior middies Liz Porter and Brianna Grisell kept the speedy Wave at bay throughout the evening.

The Lady Bobcats were then able to break the match open late when sophomore Molly Levine rebounded the shot of fellow sophomore Christina Merkle to make it 2-0. Senior Kristen Murray sealed the win with two well struck left-footed goals assisted by Merkle and senior Courtney Morlock.
