Icecats Win SWC Division Title

BBD hockey bests Newtown and takes first round bye in upcoming state tournament.

The Bethel-Brookfield-Danbury (BBD) Icecats defeated Newtown 5-1 Saturday before a large crowd at the in the championship game of the SWC playoffs.

Goalie Luiz Dibble turned away 27 Nighthawk shots and was named the tourney MVP. Trevor Kurijaka scored twice, and Nick Melvin, Steve Segiet and Jon Leonard netted one each for BBD. The defensive tandem of Matt Hallock, Jordan Warren, Nick Blaszka and Billy Hunt were solid throughout, killing seven of eight Newtown power plays to help Dibble thwart the Newtown attack.

The 16-6 Icecats have earned a first round bye in the upcoming CIAC state tournament and will play Thursday against the Masuk-Sheehan winner.
