Icecats Add 2 Wins, Ranked 2nd in CIAC

Icecats improve to 6-2-1 before a home game and an away game this week.

The Brookfield-Bethel-Danbury (BBD) Icecats defeated North Haven 4-1 and Watertown-Pomperaug 2-0 last week to move into second place in the CIAC state D2 rankings.

Against a rugged D1 North Haven squad Wednesday at the Danbury Ice Arena, senior goalie Luiz Dibble recorded a season high 37 saves to lead the BBD effort. Trailing 1-0 after the first period the 'Cats offense got hot, scoring three times in the second to take control of the game. Trevor Kurjiaka tied the score with the rebound of a Matt Hallock shot from the point. Daivon Ruggiero then scored twice assisted by Jordan Warren, and Wil Lawrence and Steve Almeida.

Dibble and the defense then held off North Haven until Warren's empty netter assisted by John Vitti sealed the win.

On Friday night at the Taft School, Dibble again came up big between the pipes as he and the BBD defense continually thwarted the agressive, and previously unbeaten,  Watertown-Pomperaug attack for a 2-0 shutout.

After a scoreless first period, the Icecats again heated up in the second with goals from Ruggiero and Scott Martin with assists to Martin and Warren.
