Girls Soccer Advances to State Quarterfinal

No. 17 Lady Bobcats come back to defeat No. 1 Sacred Heart.

The Lady Bobcats rallied from a 2-0 deficit to upset a top-seeded Sacred Heart team Saturday and move on to the Quarterfinals of CIAC Class L State Tournament.

Jen Millar got the comeback started late in the first half by finishing Christie Pondiccio's crossing pass for Brookfield's first goal. Midway through the second half, the Lady Bobcats got the equalizer when Paulina Heron headed Carly Cobol's corner kick into the SHA net. Two minutes later Brianna Grisell scored what proved to be the winner by putting home a strike off of Brooke Sands’ centering pass and the defense held on for the 3-2 win. The Lady Bobcats will play again Tuesday at Farmington.

"I am very proud of these girls today," Coach Norton said after the game. "Being down early is tough especially to a good team like Sacred Heart, but the girls never gave up, kept calm and finished the opportunities they created."
