Girls LAX Takes Care Of Notre Dame

Brookfield Girls Lacrosse Dominates Notre Dame 17-3 As It Prepares For Match-Up With Newtown

The Brookfield Girls Lacrosse (3-0, 2-0) team scored three goals in the opening two minutes of their South-West Conference matchup with an overmatched Notre Dame-Fairfield team.  The Lady Lancers answered with a goal to stop the bleeding momentarily, but the Lady Bobcats wasted no time in netting another goal en route to a 12-2 first half dismantling.

With senior captain Alexa Foldy running the offense and setting up cutters with perfect passes, Brookfield was able to spread the ball around for a balanced attack.  Junior attacker Kathryn Marron was her favorite target, scoring on the first two goals of the game and tallying five in the half.  Marron added two more goals in the 2nd half, both off feeds from Foldy as the Lady Bobcats ran away with the 17-3 win.

"Alexa was feeding the ball really well," Marron said of her teammate.  "The team did a good job moving the ball around."

Senior captain Jackie Brown was also the recipient of Foldy's sweet set-ups.  Brown scored four goals in the game, two in each half, her last coming on a beautiful give-and-go with Foldy.

Other Brookfield players to get in the scoring column were junior Shannon Gruda with two goals, junior Kelsey Zimmerer, junior Emily Leonard and junior Katie Serio with one goal apiece.  Foldy rounded out her solid game with a goal as well.

"We played well," coach Kary Rodgers said.  "We can always play better."

The Lady Bobcats did a good job not overlooking Notre Dame, as they now get ready for their big SWC battle with cross-town rival Newtown on Friday.

"We were excited for a big week," Rodgers said thinking of the showdown.  "We have a big game on Friday.  Newtown is a big rival, they always have been.   They are very skilled, good competition, but so are we."

Brookfield knows it will have to give its best effort to get by the Lady Nighthawks.

"If we work hard, we'll be ready," Marron said.

Coach Rodgers, a former Lady Bobcat and standout collegian player at Roger Williams University seemed to have her game face on as she looked ahead.

"We'll have to play good defense and do the things we have been working on," she stated as keys to the game.  "We need to play a clean game.  We know how to play.  We will work as hard as possible."
