Girls Lacrosse (1-2, 1-2):

The lady Bobcats had to wait longer than usual to pick up their first win of the season this year, but they were able to put their short two-game losing streak behind them with a 16-12 win over rival Immaculate at Brookfield Stadium.

"It's always sweet," Brookfield head coach Kary Rodgers said of getting the team in the win column with a victory over the Lady Mustangs. "They really looked good out there today."

Brookfield has struggled early in the year with both its offense and defense as they break in a group of young players.

"We have a ton of freshmen who have gone from youth lacrosse to this," Rodgers said. "It's going to be exciting for me to see them grow."

The team is still led by its senior scoring duo, Emily Leonard and Kathryn Marron. Leonard broke out early against Immaculate, shedding her early season slump. She scored two goals in the opening five minutes of the game to help Brookfield keep pace with the Lady Mustangs who jumped out to a 5-3 lead.  From there the Brookfield defense picked up the pressure allowing the offense to take control.

Leonard would score two more of her game high seven goals in the half to help Brookfield take a 10-8 lead. Immaculate scored in the opening seconds of the second half but Leonard answered a minute later before Marron scored two of her five goals to push the lead to 13-9.

Strong goaltending by sophomore Kelly Grady and good team defense would keep Immaculate from scoring again until the 6:53 mark. By then Brookfield had taken control of the game.

Softball (3-1, 1-0):

The Lady Bobcats picked up another non-conference win on Thursday as they played their rained-out game against Torrington (2-2).  The team had to travel to play the Lady Red Raiders instead of hosting the game as originally scheduled. The long bus ride didn't bother Brookfield in the 5-1 win.

Brookfield got off the bus swinging and jumped out to 4-0 lead in the first inning. They tacked on another run in the fourth inning while getting another strong pitching performance from Brittany Fusek to help them cruise to victory. Fusek pitched a complete game, striking out 10.

Guiliana D'Arcangelo hit a home run and Wendi Westmark hit a triple as each went 2-for-4 with an RBI.  Felicia Lennon also went 2-for-4 with an RBI.
