Junior David Russo placed 15th, scoring 240.60 points.

Basketball — Post Season Honors:

Sophomore Julia DePoi opened eyes with her performance during the girls basketball season this year, so much so that she was named the SWC breakout player of the year by players around the league.

DePoi burst onto the scene by scoring 21 points in the season opener for Brookfield, helping the Lady Bobcats to win the Rye Country Day Tip Off Tournament in New York.

During the regular season DePoi was a consistent scoring threat for Brookfield, helping them to a 13-7 overall record and a 10-5 record in conference.  She scored in double-figures throughout the year, having another 20-point game against New Milford.

DePoi then proved she could be a big-time money player when the post-season rolled around. She averaged 19.8 points in her first post-season trip.

In the SWC tournament, she scored 16 points and 23 points in the team's two games against Kolbe Cathedral and Newtown.

She then scored 15 points in the opening round state tournament game against Northwest Catholic before going for her season high 25 in the second round four-point loss to No. 2 E.O. Smith.

Lady Bobcats junior Tara Schang received consideration as the SWC defensive player of the year in the poll.

The Bobcat boys team also had a top defending junior on their squad.  Ralph Schatz was a menace to the opposition all season long, averaging 5.4 blocks on the year, which gained him votes in the poll.

Brookfield boys basketball head coach Wayne Thrall received consideration in the voting as the SWC coach of the year.  Thrall, in only his second season at the helm, guided a team that went 3-17 the previous year to a 13-9 record overall and a 9-6 record in conference.  For the Bobcats it was their first winning season since 2003-04, earning them a trip to both the SWC playoffs and the state tournament.

Cheerleading/Color Gaurd:

The Bobcats cheerleading squad competed in the Co-Ed state championship at the New Haven Athletic Center on Saturday, finishing in seventh place with a score of 129.5.  Branford won the event with 161.2 points.  Fellow SWC squad New Milford placed fourth with 143.5 points.

Last Friday, Brookfield High School hosted its annual color guard and percussion ensemble competition, Flags in Flight Guard Competition.

Twenty-seven color guard teams and five percussion ensembles participated, with New Milford High School winning the percussion ensemble and color guard classes. Newtown High won in two color guard classes while Brookfield came in ninth place in the color guard class.
