In a rugged battle of unbeatens Thursday night the Joel Barlow Falcons turned back the Brookfield High School (BHS) Bobcats 2-0 to solidify their top seed in the upcoming SWC playoffs.
Midway through the first half a collision with a Falcon forward ended the evening early for Brookfield goalkeeper Austin DaCunha and defender Wyatt Hathaway. Sophomore goalkeeper Tom Burkhart stepped in admirably, holding off the speedy Falcon attack until a late first half corner kick was rebounded in for the game's first score.
The second ranked Bobcats pushed on throughout but were unable to produce an equalizer and a late Barlow penalty kick closed out the match.
The 7-1-6 Bobcats will host New Fairfield Monday at 7 p.m. with Senior Night festivities starting at 6:30.
