WMS Students Place First in State Math Competition

Middle School students take first in team competition, eighth grader moves on to Nationals.

The Whisconier Middle School (WMS) MathCOUNTS team of Ryan Gallo, Jean Hue, Peter Lazorchak and Alicia Wang took it all the way to a first place finish in the State round of the MathCOUNTS competition this weekend at the University of Hartford.

Eighth grader Alicia Wang's fourth place individual finish earns her a spot on the new CT team, who will represent the state at the National MathCOUNTS competition in Washington, DC, May 5 through 8.

Her three new teammates are from other towns in Connecticut, but WMS Coach Jon Reinhardt will continue on to coach the top four individual finishers in the state.  Over the next seven weeks, the new team will meet with Coach Reinhardt to work on team building, improve individually and prepare for the national competition.
