Two School Days Added to Feb

February 17 and 18 will now be instructional days

The Brookfield School District will be adding two days to the February school calendar to make up for some of the seven days missed so far due to snow. The two days pull the last day of school back from June 22 to Monday, June 20 (originally June 13).

Students would usually have a long weekend leading up to Presidents Day, February 21 this year, with a professional day for teachers on Thursday, February 17, and no school on Friday, February 18.

The Board of Education (BOE) voted Thursday, February 3, to make February 17 and 18 instructional days, however Monday, February 21, will still be a school holiday.

This move gives the district an additional seven days to work with at the end of the school year, as the academic year cannot go past June 30.

“This precautionary measure is being taken in an attempt to minimize the impact of taking away days from the April vacation and attending school up until June 30,” Superintendent Anthony Bivona explained, adding that the district is “sensitive to the fact that families may have already made plans to be away on February 17 and 18,” and that those students will be excused with permission from their parents or guardians.
