New Scoreboard Unveiled at BHS

Thanks to a grant from Iroquois Transmission, Brookfield High School will keep score in style.

Brookfield High School (BHS) scored this week, receiving a $20,000 community grant from Iroquois Gas Transmission System, LP, enabling the school to add a new scoreboard to the sports field.  The new scoreboard, featuring the blue and gold school colors, includes up-to-date technology.

"We work really hard to build positive relationships in the communities, said Iroquois President Jay Holm, who visited BHS Wednesday evening, along with Vice President Jeff Brunner, for the unveiling of the new scoreboard and the presentation of the grant. Members of the BOE, Superintendent Anthony Bivona and BHS Principal Bryan Luzzi, were on hand to thank the Iroquois executives for their generosity.

Iroquois' Community Grant Program was recently expanded, according to Holm, who said replacing the BHS scoreboard offered an "excellent opportunity," to contribute to the Brookfield community. The program was established in 2007 to provide lasting benefits to the communities where Iroquois facilities are located, according to the company website. It focuses on environmental and recreational initiatives, but will now extend to include the arts, culture and historical preservation.

"Thanks just doesn't seem to cut it," said Board of Education (BOE) Chairman Mike Fenton, at a meeting Wednesday night. The BOE and district administrators were grateful for the $20,000 grant that allowed them to replace the previous scoreboard, which was unable to be repaired and has been out of commission since the end of last year's sports season. Every effort was made to repair what became known as the "vintage scoreboard, including bringing in a specialist.

BHS sports fans can catch the new scoreboard in action for the first time on September 14, during a cross country meet and then later in the day for a soccer game.
